There are 3 types of traditional Balinese clothes, namely Payas Agung, Payas Madya, and Payas Nista.

The traditional Balinese clothes of Payas Agung comes from the district of Buleleng, the appearance of this Payas Agung is luxurious and charming compared to other Balinese traditional clothes.

During the Badung kingdom, Payas Agung was only used by the royal family when attending traditional events such as weddings, maturity ceremonies, cremations, and other important traditional ceremonies.

The second type of Balinese traditional clothing is Payas Madya. The traditional Balinese Payas Madya clothes are worn when praying to the temple. For men, they wear a tied head covering called udeng, a white shirt which symbolizes purity, and a long cloth called kamen.

As for the traditional Payas Madya women’s clothing, it includes kebaya, kamen, and wearing a scarf tied around the waist.

The third type of Balinese traditional clothing is Payas Nista or also known as payas alit. Alit in English means small, which means this traditional clothing is the lowest level. Payas Alit is worn daily in mutual cooperation activities and praying at home. Payas alit traditional clothing is the same as payas madya, wearing traditional clothing kebaya or safari, kamen, scarves, and udeng, but payas alit is simpler.

Currently, many domestic or international tourists who visit Bali buy photo packages wearing traditional Balinese clothes. This package is widely sold by tourism agencies. Where tourists can create beautiful moments and as a keepsake by taking pictures wearing complete traditional Balinese clothes. You can request to do a photo shoot indoors or outdoors with a Balinese background. Most of the guests wear traditional Balinese clothes Payas Agung because it is more luxurious and charming.
