Bali’s first street art festival organized by local artists

Bali’s 2023 events calendar promises to be bigger and better than ever, featuring world-class musicians and internationally renowned yoga festivals, among other exciting happenings.

A group of Balinese artists is thrilled to announce the island’s first-ever street art festival, beginning on May 1, 2023 and running throughout the month until May 31. The festival aims to foster a dialogue between the public and artists, using the power of street art as a medium for cultural exchange, personal expression, and artistic exploration.

Named the Tangi Street Art Festival, the organizers intend to incorporate art into Bali’s urban landscape by featuring outdoor murals and community events throughout the festival month. The murals aim to reflect the artist’s ideas and energy, emphasizing the importance of creating and sharing art and interacting with public spaces.

The founders of the Tangi Street Art Festival in Bali aim to spark a conversation between artists and the public, creating a safe and free platform for diverse cultural perspectives, personal opinions, and artistic views to be expressed through their “artistic interventions.” The festival boasts a talented artist lineup featuring some of Indonesia’s most highly regarded creative talent, including Zolalongor, Uncle Joy, Dwymabim, and Ijal Mariachi as headliners.

The inaugural Tangi Street Art Festival in Bali has chosen ‘Paras Paros’ as its theme, a Balinese term that signifies ‘the spirit of togetherness.’ According to the festival’s founders, street art is a public form of art that has the ability to unite people, foster dialogue, and establish a sense of community.

Street art and the spirit of togetherness are often intertwined, as murals are frequently created through artistic collaborations. These murals serve as a means to express community values and tell the stories of specific areas. The Tangi Street Art Festival’s organizers strongly believe that street art has the potential to promote social change and community building. While the final festival schedule is yet to be revealed, teaser content is being shared on the festival’s social media pages. Most of the events will be held in and around Denpasar, offering the public the opportunity to watch the creation of murals and meet the headline artists.

Despite being in its first year, the Tangi Street Art Festival in Bali has tremendous potential. The organizing team has secured significant local sponsors and media partners. It is anticipated that the inaugural festival will be a resounding success and pave the way for future street art festivals on the island. Bali is actively striving to promote itself as a world-class destination for conferences, events, and festivals, with a particular emphasis on attracting an international audience. This includes live music, sports competitions, and other events.

Upcoming major events in Bali include the Bali Spirit Festival, scheduled to take place from May 4th-7th at The Yoga Barn and Puri Padi Hotel. This festival is one of the most prestigious yoga and wellness events worldwide, drawing in healing practitioners, yoga teachers, musicians, and artists from all over the world. In July, the Ubud Village Jazz Festival, another world-class cultural event, will return to Ubud, adding to the island’s cultural calendar.
