Bali Remains a Popular Holiday Destination for Australians: New Travel Data

Bali has emerged as one of the most popular holiday destinations for Australians, as per the recent travel data released by the immigration officials in Bali.

The data reveals that I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport recorded 887,198 international passengers in April 2023, with 106,820 Australian foreigners arriving through the airport. Indian and Chinese tourists followed with 36,278 and 25,383 people, respectively. The surge in the number of Australian travelers heading to Bali indicates that they are enthusiastic about returning to the Island of the Gods.

As the high season approaches, Bali is gearing up to welcome even more holidaymakers from Australia and around the world. The tourism stakeholders on the island have expressed relief as the World Health Organization has officially revoked the Public Health Emergency of International Concern for Covid-19. However, international travelers over the age of eighteen heading to Indonesia must show proof of full Covid-19 vaccination status unless medically exempt.

Bali has always been a top holiday destination for Australian travelers, owing to its all-inclusive resorts and easy access to beachfront bliss. Whether it is the family-friendly resorts of Kuta or the stylish retreats of Seminyak, Bali offers travelers the epitome of luxury and relaxation, irrespective of travel budget. Bali is a popular destination for family holidays as it offers a plethora of family-friendly activities, including the Waterbom Waterpark, paragliding in Tanjung Benoa, cultural shows in Ubud, and immersing in rural life up in the rice fields of Tegalalang. Bali’s hospitality is famous worldwide, and the generous and open-hearted welcome is extended to children as well.

Flight availability from Australia is another significant factor that ensures that Australians return to Bali year after year. Airlines like Jetstar, AirAsia, and Virgin Australia land in Bali dozens of times a week, making it super convenient to hop on a flight to Bali. In 2023, flight availability got even better, with Virgin Australia introducing their first-ever Gold Coast to Bali flight, which is a total game-changer.

Australians might have to pay for their first 30-day visa on arrival, but the ease of obtaining a visa makes booking a holiday to Bali a breeze. Before the pandemic, the 30-day visa on arrival was free for citizens of dozens of countries, including Australia. Post-pandemic, a blanket IDR 500,000 fee has been introduced to all who are eligible for the visa on arrival in Indonesia. Despite the extra cost, the ease of application (now available online) and the relative affordability of the visa on arrival make Bali a preferred holiday destination for Australians.

Bali’s popularity among Australians continues to soar, owing to its all-inclusive resorts, family-friendly activities, and easy accessibility from Australia. The recent travel data reinforces the fact that Bali remains a top holiday destination for Australians, and the island is all set to welcome more holidaymakers as the high season approaches.
